Choosing the RIGHT Realtor

Choosing a realtor can be stressful.  A trusted friend or family member’s recommendation goes a long way in choosing a realtor but how can you know they are the right realtor for you?  What qualities and services should you look for in a realtor? This is a big decision, one that impacts your finances and your peace of mind. 

There isn’t a clearcut list to use in choosing a realtor but there are some clear indicators that set realtors apart.  

First and foremost, your realtor should be able guide you through your real estate journey.  They should be able to answer questions clearly and in a way that enables you to understand the process.  You and your realtor should be able to communicate easily and be on the same page with your real estate goals.

Successful realtors have clear plans and strategies based on the current market.  Staging, marketing and pricing your home should be researched, planned and clearly thought out. Your realtor should have online and print marketing strategies.  Good realtors take the time to guide you in staging your home and preparing it to look its best for showings.  Once your home is showing ready a professional photographer should be brought in to photograph.   Staging and marketing set the stage for the perfect price.  Your realtor should be educated and experienced to price your home in that sweet spot for the success in the current real estate market.  

A great realtor pays attention to the details.  Not only do they pay attention to staging, marketing, and pricing details but they need to pay attention to process details.  Contractual languaage and deadlines are steadfast in the real estate world and your realtor has to be organized and tuned in at each step.  Realtors are there to handle all the small details of your transaction and should be competant at each step.  

You also want a realtor that is calm and can find solutions to problems that may arise.  Real estate transactions often encounter hiccups along the way.  Communication and negotiation skills are key to successful transactions.  Your realtor should be able to handle any situation with ease.  

In addition to good communication, planning, strategy, pricing, and negotiation skills it pays to have an experienced realtor.  Experienced realtors often have a wide network, a history of handling real estate processes, and effective marketing and strategy plans.

Don’t let the task of choosing a realtor slow you down in moving forward with your real estate goals.  Remember, referrals from trusted family and friends is a great place to start your search for a realtor. Don’t be shy in asking questions and researching until you find your perfect fit.
